CV Parents

Coachella Valley Parents was founded by Latinx immigrant parents from the Eastern Coachella Valley who believed that every family deserves a meaningful voice in shaping the education and future of their children and their communities. What began as a small group of parents supporting one another has grown into a community-led nonprofit organization dedicated to developing parent leadership, advancing educational equity, promoting environmental justice, and strengthening the well-being of immigrant and farmworker families.

Many of our members are immigrants, farmworkers, or come from farmworker families. We understand the challenges our neighbors face because we share the same experiences, attend the same schools, and live in the same communities. This lived experience allows us to build trust, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities for parents to become leaders who improve the future of their families and communities.

  • At Coachella Valley Parents, we believe that leadership already exists within our

    community. Our role is to create opportunities for parents to discover their voices, build

    confidence, and develop the skills needed to advocate for their families and their

    communities.

    Rather than simply providing services, we invest in parents so they become advocates,

    organizers, mentors, and trusted leaders. Many parents who once felt uncertain about

    speaking in public now lead community meetings, organize events, mentor other

    families, participate in school district discussions, and engage directly with

    decision-makers.

  • Educational equity is at the heart of our work. We support parents in understanding how

    schools operate and encourage meaningful participation in decisions that affect students

    and families. Our parent leaders actively participate in Local Control and Accountability

    Plan (LCAP) discussions, school board meetings, school climate initiatives, restorative

    practices, and other educational decision-making processes. By strengthening parent

    voice, we help create schools where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

    We believe that when parents become informed and engaged partners, schools become

    stronger, more inclusive, and more responsive to the needs of their communities.

  • Leadership also grows through connection, joy, and shared experiences. Activities such

    as Zumba nights, family art workshops, moonlight gatherings, restorative circles, and

    cultural celebrations provide welcoming spaces where families build trust, support one

    another, and discover their collective power. Through these experiences, parents

    strengthen community ties, become more informed about their rights, share knowledge

    and experiences, and grow more actively engaged in their children's education and the

    issues affecting their neighborhoods. Every gathering is an opportunity to build trust,

    strengthen relationships, and help parents recognize that their voices matter.

  • Our work extends beyond the classroom because we recognize that children's success is

    deeply connected to the health of the communities where they live. Coachella Valley

    Parents actively supports environmental justice efforts throughout the Eastern Coachella

    Valley, particularly in communities impacted by the Salton Sea. We educate families

    about environmental health, organize community outreach and advocacy efforts, and

    encourage residents to participate in public decision-making processes that promote

    cleaner air, healthier neighborhoods, and environmental equity for future generations.

    We believe environmental justice and educational equity go hand in hand because

    children cannot thrive academically if they grow up in unhealthy environments.
